Therapeutic Support and intervention:

At the Ruth Gorse Academy, we continually strive to ensure students receive timely mental health support and interventions to meet their emotional and mental health needs. Therapeutic and mental health interventions delivered in the academy provide a safe, confidential and nurturing space where students can explore their feelings, overcome challenges and build the resilience they need to thrive, both in and out of the classroom.
To support students emotional and mental health needs we deliver a range of therapeutic interventions within the academy, delivered by both professionals within the academy and externally commissioned services.

How we support students:

On topics such as low self-esteem, promoting resilience, emotional regulation, building friendships, understanding emotions, the impact of social media and the importance of sleep and association with mental health.
To provide students with guidance, encouragement and the tools they need to grow in confidence, develop positive relationships, develop positive behaviour and attitudes, enhance communication and social skills, and managing transitions and/or change to reach their personal and academic goals.
Delivered by GIPSIL trained Counsellors, tailored to each child’s individual needs.
We work in collaboration with the Mindmate Support team to deliver early intervention emotional wellbeing support. The Mindmate Support team work closely with the academy Senior Mental Health Leads to deliver evidence-based interventions for students with mild to moderate mental health needs, parent workshops and mental health training and professional development for colleagues.
Where indicated to fully understand student needs and to ensure holistic support for students.
Referrals to external mental health professionals and services (where indicated) including crisis services, to ensure students receive timely and specialist mental health support where students needs cannot be met by professionals in school, or the level of risk requires specialist mental health support and intervention.

The Mindmate Support team work alongside education settings to offer strategic support around developing whole setting approaches to emotional wellbeing. The Mindmate Support team is part of a national mental health support team project, commissioned by the Government to ensure all children have access to timely emotional wellbeing support.
