The Ruth Gorse Academy has partnered with Symington’s to give 15 students an insight into the world of manufacturing. The students, who will work on the project over the forthcoming academic year, will have the opportunity to develop an “on the go” healthy breakfast product from concept to launch, together with a marketing plan.


Have supported visits to their Leeds Dock offices for the Women into STEM event, discussed career opportunities with our students at the TRGA Careers Fair and Careers Drop-Down Day and have supported our students on The Diana Award with their social action project.


Delivered assemblies for the Teach First Big Class Challenge, offered a dedicated work experience placement for two of our Year 10 students and discussed the wide range of careers available in Engineering at the TRGA Careers Fair and Careers Drop-Down Day.

Civil Service / DWP

Delivered an assembly with our entire Year 10 cohort about careers in the Civil Service with the DWP at Quarry House in Leeds and the Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship programme.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust

Supported our TRGA Careers Fair and Careers Drop-Down Day and many other events, including assemblies for National Careers Week and bespoke mock interviews for some of our Year 10 students at the NHS Employers offices.

Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership

Have supported TRGA throughout the year with volunteers for mock interviews and careers events, including assemblies on careers information about the Leeds City Region.

First Direct

Supported the TRGA Careers Fair and Year 10 Mock Interview event and provide work experience opportunities for our students once they are in Year 11.

University of Law

Ran a bespoke workshop on Careers in Law with some of our Year 10 students.


Came in to speak with our KS3 Design Technology students about careers in Engineering.

Leeds United Foundation

Met with our Year 10 BTEC Sports Studies students to discuss the post-16 study pathways available with their organisation.

Leeds City College

Support us with numerous careers events throughout the year, including the TRGA Careers Fair and workshops with our BTEC Art and Design students to explain more about taking the subject further at post-16.

University of Leeds

Provided volunteers for our girls football club via their Students into Schools programme.

University of Bradford

Spoke with our Year 8 students about the PeaceJam project and provided numerous opportunities for our students, including the Powering Transformation Year 7 ICT challenge with the Transformation Trust and Dell.

The Prince’s Trust

Run the MOSAIC Enterprise Challenge with a small group of our Year 9 students on an annual basis, using business mentors from KPMG.

Google Digital Garage

Offered CV building workshops for students in Year 10.


Deliver careers sessions about Higher Education and career planning with small groups of our students in Year 7 to Year 10.


Delivered the People Like Me event at the school with local volunteers to encourage our female Science students to get in to Engineering in the future.

Leeds College of Music

Year 10 BTEC Music students visited the LCOM campus to find out more about what studying Music Performance, Production or Technology would be like at a higher level.

Kirklees College

Year 8, 9 and 10 Music students attended the ‘Track in a Day’ careers event to learn more about recording their own music track.

Go Higher West Yorkshire

Provide support and funding for the school to run careers and enterprise events, through the NCOP (National Collaborative Outreach Programme) funding.

Talk the Talk

Delivered oracy and presentation skills workshops with all of our Year 10 students.

Ryman National Enterprise Challenge

Ran the National Enterprise Challenge with our Year 9 students, with the winning team attending the finals day on Wednesday 4th July.

STEM Ambassadors

Support us with volunteers from a variety of STEM careers, including Engineering, Science and Technology.

Royal Geographical Society

Ran a workshop with our Year 10 GCSE Geography students and careers and further/higher education options related to Geography.

Students in Year 10 spoke with hundreds of sixth forms, colleges, training and apprenticeship providers from across the Yorkshire and the Humber region.

British Army

Discussed the range of careers in the Army with students at the TRGA Careers Fair and supported with an assembly on Job Stereotypes with our Year 7 students.

Leeds Apprenticeship Hub

Discussed the range of apprenticeship opportunities available in Leeds with our students at the TRGA Careers Fair.

The Apprentice Finder

Gave our Year 9 and 10 students an overview of what apprenticeships are like and how to apply for them at post-16 and beyond.
