At The Ruth Gorse Academy, we are also part of The GORSE Academies Trust, which is made up of eleven academies in the primary, secondary, post-16 and alternative provision phases. This affords us excellent opportunities to work in partnership, ensuring the curriculum is delivered to the highest standard.

Partnership work takes place in all areas of the academic curriculum, as well as in ensuring that pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is enhanced. In addition, the work we do in partnership also allows us all to plan learning and enrichment activities which help to prepare our pupils for life in modern Britain.

At the Ruth Gorse Academy, teachers and leaders meet regularly in partnership with other academies in the Trust. This allows teachers from all areas of the curriculum to see how their subject is taught in other secondary academies as well as in younger and older phases. This allows the opportunity for joint planning, bringing in expertise from a number of sources. The collaboration also ensures we regularly have our assessments externally moderated by Trust colleagues to ensure we are absolutely accurate in our assessment of pupils. Given that our partnership includes work with three academies which have also been judged to be Outstanding by Ofsted, we can be assured that this collaborative work is of the highest quality.

Furthermore, the cross curricular links within our own academy and across the Trust provides our pupils with the opportunity to reinforce their key skills on a regular basis and in a variety of ways, thus deepening their understanding of the skills they acquire. For example, there is a significant focus in all lessons on pupils’ literacy skills with particular attention paid to spelling, punctuation and the use of key terminology across the different learning areas. All teachers are teachers of literacy and this means that pupils are always praised for improving literacy and challenged where literacy skills need further improvement. this approach also clarifies to the pupils the benefit of using accurate and ambitious language in all walks of life and prepares them well for their future.
