On Monday and Tuesday the rowing club are travelling down to London for the two biggest races of the Winter racing season.
Monday is the Schools’ Head of the River, a 6800m race on the Thames through Central London. As many as 400 crews compete here at the highest level. Senior crews, one of whom will be coxed by Vyshnavi Rao from TRGA, will be racing here for the first time ever. The following students have been selected to represent TGBC at SHORR: Tom Davidson, Chris Blakeney, Theo Crawford, Josh Overal and cox Lewis Beese and for the girls Pi Thongphao, Amanta Cuhaldina, and Abbie Rayner.
Tuesday is the National Junior Sculling Head at Dorney Lake, Eton. This 3600m race will be contested by junior crews from all over the country. TGBC will be sending two crews from TRGA.
The following students will compete on Tuesday: Sophia Cayanan, Holly Anderson, Deborah Mbalazau, Emma Fullerton, Vyshnavi Rao, Matheusz Chetkowski, Alex Fullerton, Joe Zeqiri and Thomas Hendry. The boys will be coxed by Lewis Beese, a senior cox at Elliott Hudson College.
Not only is this a huge event to be competing in in the second year of the club’s existence, it is also a mark of how well students from EHC and TRGA work together. I am incredibly proud of the team and their progress; it is a testament to their grit and dedication that they have got themselves to a point where there are able, not only to go to these huge events, but to be competitive there.
