Moving to the Black Bull Street Site: A Letter from the Principal

//Moving to the Black Bull Street Site: A Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents/Carers

Recently the Year 6 students across the city have found out which secondary school they will be attending in September. We are pleased to share with you that we have a full cohort of 252 Year 7 students joining us in September 2016.

This coincides with our move to our new permanent facilities which is tremendously exciting for all who are involved with the academy. In preparation for this move, students have been involved in appointing new members of staff to join the team and some have also been to visit the new site, it is our intention that lots of students will have the opportunity to do this prior to the end of the summer term.

End of summer term/start of September term arrangements

In order to prepare for this move, the academy will close to students on Friday 22nd July (Thursday 21st July will be the last day for students).

The academy will reopen to Year 9 students at 8.25 am and Year 8 students at 11.05 am on Wednesday 14th September.  Ambassadors from Year 8 and Year 9 will then be on hand to assist the new Year 7’s in their first day on Thursday 15th September (8.25am start).

Transport

Due to our move to our final location, students should now be able to access public transport to journey to and from school. Attached is a summary of the bus routes that stop very close to the new site.

The one exception to this is the students who currently live in the West Leeds area (Drighlington, Armley, Wortley, Farnley) and potentially Morley. For students who live in this area there is the intention that we would commission a bus route that will allow students to be picked up close to their home and dropped off outside of the new academy. Before we can commission this though, we need to ascertain the route and level of interest. If you would be interested in using this service please complete the slip at the end of this letter.  This should be returned to Student Services by 1 April 2016.  Unlike the current arrangements, this services will be chargeable.  Students in receipt of Free School Meals will be eligible to apply for financial assistance with this.

Ordering New Uniform

If you are wishing to purchase uniform for next academic year you will need to submit your order form and payment by the end of June. Your order will then be available for collection from The Ruth Gorse Academy on Tuesday 19 July between 4 and 6 pm.   Should you be unable to collect the uniform, we will send it home with students on the final two days of school.

Summer communication

Please be aware that over the course of the summer the whole of the academy will be offline, with no telephone service between Monday 15 August and Friday 19 August whilst they transfer our network to the new site.

If you have any questions relating to the move please do contact the academy through your child’s form tutor prior to school finishing in July.

Yours sincerely

Rebekah Taylor
