Principal

Mr Mallinson has overall responsibility for The Ruth Gorse Academy. He became the Principal in September 2020. Prior to this he was appointed as the Principal of The Stephen Longfellow Academy in October 2017 which is deemed as one of the best Alternative Provision schools in the city region. Mr Mallinson was previously the Vice Principal of The Ruth Gorse Academy in 2016 and 2017 and so it is a pleasure to welcome him back as the newly appointed Principal. Prior to joining The Gorse Academies Trust, Mr Mallinson was a PE teacher and Senior Leader responsible for Behaviour Standards in Kirklees for 11 years.

Vice Principal / Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

Mr Cornfoot is now entering his fourteenth year as a teacher and has worked under Sir John Townsley for all of his career. Earlier in his career he had Assistant Pastoral responsibility at Morley High School before becoming the school’s international dimensions co-ordinator, a role that saw him visit countries such as Sweden, Poland and Zambia. He then became Curriculum Leader of Geography before joining the academy’s Senior Leadership Team, following a brief secondment into the primary sector, he joined The Ruth Gorse Academy as Vice Principal with responsibility for Academic Standards.

Mrs Evans began her teaching career more than twenty years ago and has worked in a range of schools and settings. Much of this time has been spent working in educational leadership. Since joining the Trust, Mrs Evans has already spent some time at The Ruth Gorse Academy, along with The Bruntcliffe Academy. More recently, she worked as Vice Principal at The Stephen Longfellow Academy. Her subject areas are English and Religious Studies and as Vice Principal, she takes responsibility for behaviours and attitudes, Safeguarding and SEND.

Mr Moncur started his teaching career as a Newly Qualified Teacher, in 2012, at a comprehensive academy in Derby. Now, as Senior Assistant Principal, Mr Moncur oversees the provision around Teaching and Learning.

Mrs Murray re-trained to become a teacher after being cabin crew and then a shift manager at ‘Farmers Boy’ (a food production company for Morrison’s).
Mrs Murray started as an NQT at a school in Bradford where she was filmed for the whole year for Teachers TV. She then took on the role of Assistant Head of Department and then progressed to become Head of MFL at two large secondary schools. Mrs Murray moved to The Ruth Gorse Academy when it opened on Black Bull Street and became Assistant Principal in January 2019. Her key responsibility is overseeing colleagues in their first three years of teaching.
